Your LinkedIn Third-Party Browser Extensions May Get Removed

As recruiters we are always looking for ways to streamline and automate. Tools such as Dux Soup, LinkedHelper, MeetLeonard, Anyleads, Snov, and Lusha have catered to this need and have user numbers that reflect their growing popularity (Lusha alone has 131k users). These apps automate many of the functions of LinkedIn, from sending invites and messages, to viewing profiles and downloading contacts.

As you may have guessed, LinkedIn is not a fan of these third party apps. LinkedIn aims to be a platform that facilitates genuine person to person networking rather than becoming a medium for spam bots—and understandably so. User experience and sourcer/recruiter impact would be seriously threatened if LinkedIn inboxes started filling with spam.

With recent data privacy concerns brought on by data breaches and such, Google is taking note and will start removing many of these data-abusing Chrome extensions starting on October 15. Google’s new data policy requires that all extensions gather the least amount of personal data necessary, that they are transparent about how that data is used, and that any person data is transmitted only via encrypted network connections.

After October 15, extensions that violate this policy will be removed from the Chrome webstore and will need to become compliant to be reinstated.

Here are a list of tools that this may effect:

Noted: There’s no actual way to know the exact list made by Google or LinkedIn This list was created by a fellow Sourcer: Josef Kadlec.

  1. These users affected are ALL premium subscribers that may not want to take the extra hours a day to manually do their outreach on LinkedIn. Watch some of them go FREE now and Sales Navigator license sales take a hit. These tools helped sell Sales Navigator licenses. All this as they sell SPAM in the form of InMails. Hmmm…
