In response to current trends, many companies are now allowing their employees to work fully remotely. To keep up with business operations, technology has become a crucial tool, and recruiters are no exception. With the rise of the pandemic, video interviewing software has become increasingly popular among recruiters as a way to continue the hiring process virtually. These tools provide a convenient and efficient way for recruiters and applicants to conduct interviews from the comfort of their own homes or other remote locations. With the widespread availability of video interviewing tools, recruiters can continue to find and attract top talent, even in a fully remote work environment.
Why are recruiters embracing video interviewing software?
Convenience: Video interviewing software allows recruiters and applicants to conduct interviews from anywhere with a reliable internet connection. This eliminates the need for in-person interviews, saving time and resources.
Improved efficiency: With video interviewing software, recruiters can conduct interviews with multiple candidates in a shorter amount of time, which can help speed up the recruitment process.
Enhanced candidate experience: Video interviewing provides a more personal and interactive experience for candidates, allowing them to showcase their skills and personality in a way that is not possible with a traditional resume or phone interview.
Increased accessibility: Video interviewing software can make it easier for recruiters to reach a wider pool of candidates, including those who live in different locations or have mobility challenges.
Cost-effectiveness: Video interviewing eliminates the need for travel expenses and reduces other costs associated with in-person interviews, making the recruitment process more cost-effective for recruiters.
Better candidate assessment: With video interviewing software, recruiters can observe a candidate’s communication skills, body language, and overall demeanor in a way that is not possible with a traditional resume or phone interview.
Below I’ve selected the most popular software platforms for Recruiters and my thoughts on each. My goal has been to create a shortlist of vetted video tools. I’ve provided a small summary of each tool, with the pros and cons, in hopes of giving you the best vendor options before you decide on moving forward.
Here’s some things to consider before choosing a Video Platform:
- What type of budget will you have?
- How many users with you need to grant access to?
- How many video interviews will you be having per week/month?
- Will these videos need to be kept confidential?
Top Interviewing Software Tools for Recruiters
1. Microsoft Teams
It’s a hub for Microsoft 365 window users. It allows users to chat anywhere, meet anywhere, it’s simple and easy to step up. It comes highly recommended by other Recruiters on the Facebook group Recruiters online. Pros: you can record meetings/interviews. Note that compliance conditions apply (candidate agreement, GDPR storage) which is good for International applicants.
Here’s a recent review:
Quality of picture is excellent, the fact it is linked to a ‘slack-style’ chat groups system so that you can tie video chats to existing and subsequent conversations and doc sharing, makes for a seamless experience; linked to your one-drive if you use that. I was a big Zoom fan, but it was a standalone system with some integrations, I’m just finding Teams a little more useful.
2. Zoom
Zoom is a highly recommended video platform across the board. One consistent enterprise experience for all use cases. Engineered & optimized to work reliably. Easy-to-use, buy & scale platform. Support plans will vary: free users can fill out an online form and await a reply. Pro-plan subscribers can either submit an online form or text-chat live with a support team member. Cons: It’s difficult to navigate for new users. So bare it mind that issue when setting up interviews.
3. Jobvite

Asynchronous interviews mean you don’t have to be actively involved as candidates get screened. Setup a question bank and review pre-recorded interviews later using the handy feedback management system.

All the details are covered with Hirevue, providing an effective platform for conducting video interviews complete with extensive branding to match your company.
